Sunday Funday

My bible verse of the day:

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” Psalm 42:1

Waking up knowing today is Sunday and I’m going to church puts me in such great spirits!  Every Sunday morning I’m woken up to my son coming in my room, grabbing both my checks with his tiny hands and saying, “good morning mommy”. My son, Tanner, likes to get up at the crack of dawn, which I know if I forget to set my alarm clock, I have one that has two little arms and legs, and know he will march in there and wake me up. With everyone in great spirits, we get ready for church. We take turns taking showers and making our coffee.

Once we arrived at the church we are greeted with the uttermost love from our church family. We attend a small church, so it is like a small family. When someone does not attend we can to check on them, making sure they are okay. Our church family would not be the same if anyone was missing!

Every Sunday we have a potluck after church, so we like to cook a meal or two and bring it to church. Since today was “Children’s Church” we had a lot of finger foods. There where hot dogs with chili and cheese, chips, cheese dip, little sausages, and much more.

We always have a great time and if you have time you should come check it out!

Happy Holidays, Drink Responsibly

With the holiday season upon us, many are starting to plan for their Christmas parties and many more, their New Year’s parties. Its standard to bring something, either food or drink, to such gatherings but after spending all one’s money on Christmas you may be looking to go thrifty when it comes to such events. One of my favorite drink recipes from my college years was Blue Hawaiians. And the best part is you can make as little or as much as you want on a budget. Where most recipes call for specific liquors and mixes, the only constant in the Blue Hawaiian is the base ingredients: Coconut Rum, Vodka, Pineapple juice and Blue Curacao.

How fancy and upbeat you want them to taste is up to you after that. When I hosted these types of parties I would take a sports water cooler and make a vat of Blue Hawaiian which would service about 15 people comfortably. Now forewarning: this alcohol content in these is extremely potent so be sure to warn people. Being on a college budget there’s no way I could afford the cream of the crop in ingredients so I would settle for the plastic bottle montage. My go to on a budget Coconut Rum was Admiral Nelson. It by far is one of my favorite budget liquors which mixes the best. Next, I would go with the vodka, usually White Wolf Vodka. Blue Curacao is easy enough and if you have a half a bottle lying around you won’t even need to buy any because that is plenty. Next, you’ll need the Pineapple juice. This is the one area where I don’t go cheaper. I really only buy Dole’s larger canned pineapple juice. The imitation brands just don’t have the flavor that Doles does. Finally, you get to mixing. Now the biggest reason why this mixed drink is so easy to make in the masses is that it requires little to no measuring. It’s 2 1.75L bottles of Coconut Rum, 1 bottle of 1.75L of Vodka, 2-3 cans of pineapple juice, and 4-second pour of blue curacao, all over the ice. Stir and taste. If it’s too sweet, add more vodka, if it’s too strong, add more pineapples juice, if it’s not sweet enough add more coconut rum.   Done. Even if you’re not hosting the party you can make this and bring it as a trash can punch and everyone can enjoy.  Plus, you’ll be the person who brought the party. If you’re going to a more controlled party and want to bring the higher brands, I would recommend Malibu Coconut rum and Svedka vodka and for the pineapple juice, look for the smaller individual cans. Blue Curacao really doesn’t change but if you want to buy a higher name brand you can. The portions change just slightly: 3 oz of coconut rum, 2 oz of vodka, 1 can of pineapple juice, and a splash of blue curacao. Stir and enjoy. Happy Holidays and drink responsibly.

Tanner Turns Three!

Tanner Turns Three!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have twenty little kids running around?? Yup not something many people would like but that what happens when you have a three-year old’s birthday! We had a blast, and had so much fun with everyone who came. Spiderman was the theme of the party. So, we had a Spiderman cake, Spiderman cupcakes, Spiderman gifts, Spiderman decorations, Spiderman everything, if it had anything to do with Spiderman then you know it was there!

It was like a three-year old’s Spiderman heaven! We had a double water slide that had a tiny pool at the bottom of it and the kids would not get out. The water slide is called a Vortex. It has two water slides that pour water down the slides. Then we had a camo monster truck jumpy house that the kids LOVED. The weather was perfect, if I could relive that day forever I would! The gifts were Tanners favorite part. Tanner received huge Spiderman and hulk action figures. He received two books that you press the images on the side of the book and they make noises and talk to you as you read the story, which is one of Tanners favorite types of books. He received a paw patrol piggy bank that he can paint. A Spiderman towel and Spiderman web shooter (which he has not put down since the party). We also had a balloon section that had about 6 balloons on a weight with a big red “3” so we could get some third birthday pictures. Overall this birthday has been one of the most amusing birthdays I have been too much less hosted. Please let me know in the comments any exciting birthday parties you have been too. Talk to you soon 😊

Creating an Ultra-Productive Work Environment

Creating an Ultra-Productive Work Environment

To reach your maximum potential, both from a productivity and creativity standpoint, you need to set yourself up for success. You need to take the steps necessary to ensure you have an adequate workspace, where you feel comfortable and yet remain alert and focused. Fostering an environment where you can achieve peak results in a timely fashion can be difficult, but if done in simple, digestible steps, it will help you work far more efficiently.

Here are some steps to help you create an ultra-productive work environment:

Separate yourself from distractions. Likely the single most important aspect of creating an ultra-productive work environment is to make sure distractions do not bombard you. If you work from home, create an area where the noise and excitement of the family do not overwhelm your concentration. Try to remove the wares of household duties by scheduling a time to focus on those homemaking tasks and a separate time to tackle work-related issues.

Be mindful of the room temperature. Surprisingly science confirms that room temperature has a lot to do with productivity. According to this article in Fast Company,

“….Cornell University researchers conducted a study that involved tinkering with the thermostat of an insurance office. When temperatures were low (68 degrees, to be precise), employees committed 44% more errors and were less than half as productive as when temperatures were warm (a cozy 77 degrees). Cold employees weren’t just uncomfortable, they were distracted. The drop in performance was costing employers 10% more per hour, per employee.”

Be mindful of the temperatures in your workspace and if you are able, adjust them accordingly. If you work in a common or open environment, consider keeping a sweater or jacket handy for chilly occasions but also a small desk fan for times when the temperature rises.

Create an ambiance for creativity. Design an area where you not only feel comfortable but also inspired and productive. Try listening to music and encouraging podcasts and adding imagery which motivates you. Consider purchasing headphones, so you do not distract any nearby coworkers. Refreshing musical playlist from one genre to another will also help keep your mind active and alert.

Stunning visual and soothing music is are great ways to spark creativity.

Have all the necessary equipment. Nothing is as distracting to productivity than needing to stop what you are doing to find or fix a piece of necessary equipment. Whether it is a printer, a phone, or even a mechanical pencil if you need it to work and you waste time on maintenance for your materials you are backpedaling on critical timelines. Run updates for your computer each evening, when you are not working and schedule regular maintenance visits for any larger mechanical pieces of equipment. This principle also holds true to the physical premises as well. Keeping your heat and air conditioning units running smoothly, walls and floors in sufficient condition and furniture well maintained are all just as important as having a functioning computer.

Maximize your breaks. Having a reprieve away from your desk or workspace is essential to your overall productivity. You need to have the ability to step away and grab a snack or drink, quickly exercise, rest, or release your mind from the stress of the day, then when you return you can dial in and find a healthy and effective groove.

Streamline your workflow. There is an old cliché which says, “work smarter not harder.” If you are to have an ultra-productive work environment, it is essential to maximize your efforts, and you can do this by streamlining your work. Mainly, you need to work with a purpose. An effectively managed schedule and task list help to keep you on task and on time when you are working on an important project, big or small.

Brian Leach understands the importance of synchronizing schedules and maximizing efficiencies in the workplace which is why he is the man who conceptualized and invented Steelray Microsoft Project Viewer.
